How Winter Can Impact Your Shingles
Finally the snow has melted and you can enjoy the warmer weather. However, have you taken a look at your roof? Snow and ice can seriously damage the shingles on your roof. If you notice raised edges on the shingles, you may need to decide between an asphalt shingle repair or shingle replacement.
In order to avoid any additional damage, it’s best to make sure you have not lost any shingles. If you catch the damage early, it is possible that you can just replace a few of them. This will often extend the life of your roof for several more years. The attic should also be checked to make sure there is not any leakage coming down into the home. If this goes undetected, you run the danger of having mold and rot ruin your home. Sometimes you will find that the wet spots are not right underneath the damaged shingle, as water can travel down to a lower area and enter the roof in a different spot.
The areas around pipes and vents should also be checked for any loose materials surrounding them. Additionally, you should have your gutters and downspouts inspected to make sure they’re attached securely and are free from any debris that may cause draining water to backup. If they are clogged, ice can continue to form during cold nights and will back up right underneath the shingles causing damage such as dry rot.
Once the snow and ice are gone, have your roof inspected to make sure the shingles are still pliable and laying down flat. As a licensed roofing and gutter contractor, we can help inspect your roof for any problem areas and suggest the best replacement process. Call us or click here for a quote!
